Calling all parents!  Do you have a baby, love it to bits, but feel that you never get any time to yourselves anymore?

At Rumbeams Cottage, we have the answer! Spend the weekend with us, and we will look after your little treasure while you go out and do some of the things that you had almost forgotten that you could.  Or, if you prefer to go out during the day and spend the evening with your baby in your warm and comfortable bedroom, that’s fine too.

We provide the cot, highchair, changing mat, bottle and food warming – even the toys!  Oh – and a pushchair, so that you can leave yours at home if you wish.  And, having raised four children myself and now revelling in grandchildren, I am experienced with even the crankiest of babies – so you don’t need to worry if yours likes to make its presence known.

The cost for an en-suite room, including full English breakfast for you and everything that a demanding baby could wish for, is £75.00 per couple for one night or £140 for two – so why not make a weekend of it and relax for just a little while.

On a boat

Why not spend the day on the River Wey on our boat, Haslie.

Moored at Pyrford, she is big enough to sleep four but makes a perfect day boat for a trip to Weybridge to see the shops and Thames Lock, the gateway to the Thames, or you could choose to go down the river to the peaceful and other-worldly water meadows at Newark.

The River Wey is quite unique in that it has two man-made navigations the longest having been constructed around the time of the English Civil War 350 years ago. The canals, by providing almost 20 miles (32 kilometres) of navigable water connecting the county with London, ensured that Surrey became one of the wealthiest and most influential areas in Britain. Later navigations connected to the Wey Navigations including the Basingstoke Canal and the Wey & Arun Junction Canal extended the reach of barges to waterways stretching the breadth and length of England, and also once provided a southerly route to the sea.

A day on this historic piece of water, keeping company with the ducks and herons and the little shoals of fish, the occasional canoeist and the walkers on the tow-path, is the perfect way to unwind from the noise and demands of 21st century life.  You will feel as if you have stepped back a century in time.

You are welcome to take the boat out yourself if you have experience, or let us take you and simply relax.

Cycling or Walking around the Surrey Hills

Spend the weekend walking or cycling around the beautiful countryside of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  There is so much to see and do:  wonderful views, extremely good village pubs, stately homes, shopping in Cranleigh, Newlands Corner, Watts Gallery at Compton, – to name but a little of what there is on offer!

Don’t worry about bringing your bike, we are happy to provide one for you, as well as maps.  We can supply a man’s bike, a woman’s bike and a medium sized child’s bike, together with repair outfits, water bottles and panniers.

If you are planning to walk on the North or South Downs Way, why not let us pick you up at the end of your day’s walk and return you to the same spot in the morning so that you can continue on your way.

We have lots of information on local walks, both long and short and, where they are not in the village of Ewhurst, are happy to take you to the beginning of the walk and pick you up from the end.  We will supply you with full details of the walk – and you are welcome to give us a ring if you get lost – we guarantee to find you!

Dogs are always welcome, food and titbits provided on request, cuddles mandatory.
